Project Description
We are seeking an expert game developer to significantly optimize the performance of our procedural generation system within a large-scale open world RPG. The current implementation, built in Unity and utilizing C#, is generating impressive landscapes but struggles to maintain a stable framerate, particularly with increased player interaction and complex environmental features. The core task involves identifying performance bottlenecks related to terrain generation, object placement (trees, rocks, buildings), and AI pathfinding within the procedurally generated areas. This will require deep understanding of Unity's rendering pipeline, memory management techniques (object pooling, garbage collection reduction), and efficient algorithms for procedural content generation. Experience with LOD (Level of Detail) systems, instancing, and data structures like spatial partitioning (quadtrees, octrees) is essential. We are open to exploring alternative procedural generation approaches if they demonstrate potential for significant performance gains, but a strong focus on optimization is paramount. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our design and art teams to balance visual fidelity with performance targets, ensuring a smooth and engaging gameplay experience even in densely populated areas. We have extensive profiling tools available to help identify bottlenecks, and we are looking for someone who can interpret these results effectively. A portfolio showcasing previous optimization work in Unity or a similar engine is highly desirable. The final deliverables include optimized code, documentation of changes made, and performance benchmark reports demonstrating improvements.
