We're seeking a skilled Game Designer and Unity Developer to significantly overhaul the core combat system of our mobile RPG. The current system suffers from performance bottlenecks on lower-end devices and lacks the engaging, strategic depth we desire. This project involves a complete redesign of combat mechanics, focusing on optimizing for mobile platforms (iOS & Android) while creating a more dynamic and rewarding player experience. Specifically, we need improvements to AI behavior (enemy pathfinding, attack prioritization), particle effect optimization (reducing overdraw and LOD implementation), animation blending enhancements for smoother transitions, and a new system for calculating damage/status effects. We'll provide access to our existing codebase, design documentation (currently needing substantial expansion), and a detailed performance profile outlining areas for immediate improvement. The ideal candidate will have experience with profiling tools (e.g., Unity Profiler), a strong understanding of algorithmic efficiency, and a passion for creating compelling turn-based combat. Experience with procedural generation techniques is a plus. We are open to incorporating new gameplay mechanics that enhance the overall experience, but core system functionality must align with the existing game world and narrative. Collaboration with our art team will be required to ensure visual fidelity without compromising performance. A focus on creating a system that scales well across various device capabilities is paramount, with clear metrics established for success. We’ll require weekly progress reports and demonstrable improvements in performance benchmarks throughout the project lifecycle.
